Online patient payments

Patients pay their invoices by card in the client portal or from an emailed statement. Payments powered by Stripe.

NewAdd-onEHR · TCM

Patients pay what they owe online, by card, from the client portal or straight from an emailed statement. Online patient payments are new in 2026 and part of the Client Payments add-on. Payments powered by Stripe.

How it works

  • Your practice connects its own Stripe account (Stripe Connect Express) through Stripe’s onboarding in the Control Panel. Your practice is the merchant of record, the card statement shows your practice’s name, and Stripe pays out to your practice on its schedule.
  • Patients pay their client invoices (copays, coinsurance, deductibles and self-pay fees) once you have invoiced them. They can pay one or several invoices, pay part of an invoice, and apply credit on their account.
  • Patients pay in the client portal, from Billing & Payments or “Pay now” on the portal dashboard, or from a statement or invoice email, whose link opens the portal on that document. Staff can also charge a saved card or enter a card in the office.
  • Patients can save a card, with a default, or pay with a one-time card. 3-D Secure is supported.
  • A receipt PDF is emailed after each payment, following the patient’s email preference, and stays downloadable in the portal.
  • Statements go out by hand or on a monthly schedule per location, and invoices can be emailed as soon as they are created. Both are off until you turn them on.
  • Refunds go back to the original card, in full or in part. Disputes are tracked and flagged in EzPraxis, and you respond to them in your Stripe dashboard.
  • Payment actions in the portal need a fresh one-time code sent by email.

Good to know

  • Cards only: no ACH or bank transfer, Apple Pay, Google Pay or card terminal.
  • No pay-at-booking, deposits, autopay or installment plans.
  • There is no standalone payment link outside the client portal.
  • Stripe’s processing fees apply.
